Things To do (And Avoid) to Prepare for Facelift | Beverly HillsFace is an aesthetically prominent part of the body, which will reveal the onset of aging before other areas. Facial signs of aging can be corrected with facelift, which is a major plastic surgery procedure requiring adequate preparation. Dr. Gary Motykie MD is a leading plastic surgeon providing facelift surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding locations.

Things to Do

Maintain Fitness and Stable Body Weight

Prior to facelift surgery, you should focus on maintaining general health and fitness. Ensure that your body weight is not fluctuating. If the weight on your facial skin flaps is less heavy and skin is supple, the surgeon will be able to pull it smoothly and provide a natural looking, youthful appearance.

Increase Protein Intake

Proteins are essential for tissue healing. Therefore, increase the intake of lean proteins in your diet a few weeks before the facelift surgery, and continue with the same intake for a similar period after the surgery.

Keep Head in an Elevated Position

For a few days after facelift, try to keep your head in an elevated position as far as possible. This will allow for improved healing and faster recovery in the first week.

Rest Sufficiently and Sleep Well

Before your facelift procedure, your body should be well-rested. The night before the surgery, try to sleep well. Wash your hair thoroughly a day before, and avoid alcohol in the last two or three days before facelift.

Arrange for After-care

You should arrange for someone to drive you home after the facelift procedure. In the first few days, you should ideally have someone to support with the household tasks. Dr. Gary Motykie MD receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for facelift surgery.

Things to Avoid

Avoid Smoking

Smoking can interfere with the blood flow and slow down the healing process. Smokers have a higher risk of complications during and after surgery. Therefore, stop smoking for several weeks before and after facelift.

Avoid Aspirin and Herbal Supplements

Aspirin is a blood thinner, which can increase the risk of bleeding during surgery. If you take aspirin, analgesics, NSAIDs, vitamin E or any herbal meds, stop using them at least two weeks prior to facelift. Talk to your surgeon about these as well as any prescription medications you may be taking.

Avoid Excessive Salt Intake

Choose low salt foods for at least two weeks prior to facelift, and continue to have reduced salt intake for a few weeks after the procedure. High sodium will increase water retention in the body, which can increase post-surgical swelling.

Avoid Eating or Drinking Before Surgery

Your surgeon will advise you to keep an empty stomach for a minimum of eight hours before the scheduled facelift surgery. This will help minimize the feeling of vomiting and nausea related with anesthesia.

Avoid Sun Exposure

Protect the facial skin against tanning and direct sun exposure in the weeks preceding facelift. Use a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher for more protection.
